THE BELIZE ZOO & TROPICAL EDUCATION CENTER
The Belize Zoo & Tropical Education Center exhibits over 125 native Belizean animals within 84 acres of tropical savanna.
Located 31 miles west of Belize City the Belize Zoo is unlike most other zoos, as the animals are not caged nor do they reside in concrete bunkers.
The zoo was first opened in 1983, when 17 animals were left from the filming of a natural history documentary. It has since become a refuge and rehabilitation center for injured wildlife and abused or abandoned “pets”.
The Belize Zoo has become a home for an array of large cats, primates, reptiles and birds, and offers visitors the opportunity to view and learn about Belize’s impressive wildlife.
